MRP1

MRP1, or multidrug-resistance-associated protein 1, is encoded by the ABCC1, or ATP-binding cassette transporters 1, gene. MRP1 is one of several drug resistance proteins and is an important mediator of multi-drug resistance in cancer cells. MRP1 is found to confer a lack of response to vinca alkaloids, epipodophyllotoxins and mitoxantrone by causing the efflux of glutathione-conjugated natural product agents.
