AR

Androgen-mediated signaling via the AR, or androgen receptor, is critical for normal prostate development as well as prostate cancer development and progression. The basis for hormone withdrawal, or androgen ablation therapy, to treat men with prostate cancer is that prostate tumors depend on androgens and AR. AR is often expressed in breast tumors independent of ER status. How androgens and AR regulate breast cancer growth remains largely unknown.
